Welcome to Tame The Fade, a play-by-post roleplay forum that follows canonical events ranging from Dragon Age: Origins to Dragon Age: Inquisition. What this means is that we allow our members to include historical events from Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age II, and Dragon Age: Inquisition in their character history. Any knowledge taken from Official Dragon Age novels and literature is also allowed. Given that RPG's are subject to player choice, we have created a small timeline of events that should be followed and taken as factual and common knowledge throughout Thedas. Along with this timeline are a few ground rules to keep IC immersive and consistent.
Lyna Mahariel, The Hero of Fereleden, is Alive and Well. - Having the Warden Commander alive allows us to branch off into the study of The Calling and perhaps how to stop it. This goes hand in hand with Morrigan and Alistair pairing up for the Dark Ritual. The outcome is Kieran's birth, which leaves the doors open for an abundance of other plot points for all three.
Harrowmont is King of Orzammar. - Having joined forces with Branka's Golem's, Harrowmont's reign is uncontested. Any and all who dared to stand in his way were destroyed. Branka's requests for more 'subjects' was denied, leaving her to scour the surface for unwilling human and elven sacrifices. This led to a short war with Ferelden, forcing Orzammar to close it's gates.
King Alistair rules the kingdom alone. - Alistair killed Loghain Mac Tir for his crimes and imprisoned Anora.
Morrigan and Alistair went through the Dark Ritual. - Morrigan gave birth to a son, Kieran, who is host to the Soul of an Old God ( Urthemiel ).
Bethany and Carver Hawke are BOTH alive and well. - We took some artistic liberty here and have decided to have both siblings alive and well. Bethany ultimately became a Circle Mage after having been left out of the expedition into the Deep Roads. Her brother Carver became a Grey Warden after having contracted the taint on their expedition. It was the only possible way to save his life. Both siblings were sent away by Aveline Vallen once the Grey Warden's began acting strangely during the events of Dragon Age: Inquistion.
Anders is Alive and Well. - The exact location of Kirkwall's Terrorist is unknown, but he is alive and well. Rumors run rampant, but it is ultimately up to whoever roleplays him to decide where he is hiding. Mages and Templars alike have rejected him and the actions he has taken against the Chantry. It would be wise to trust only a handful of sworn comrades from here on out.
Garret Hawke, The Champion of Kirkwall, is alive and well on a voyage to Weisshaupt . - Jean-Marc Stroud's sacrifice in The Fade allowed The Inquistor and Garret Hawke to escape unscathed. All that is known of Hawke after this, is his destination and motive, but not if he has even arrived, or if he will ever arrive. No word has made it's way back to The Inquisition, which begs the question, Is The Champion even alive? Perhaps he has vanished once more, to rejoin what little is left of his family? Or to reunite with his love interest? Did Hawke manage to bring word to the Grey Wardens of Weisshaupt?
Desiderius Trevelyan and The Inquisition have defeated Corypheus and closed the rifts. - The Inquisition was led by The Herald of Andraste an estimated 2 years ago, against Corypheus' forces. They were triumphant, having defeated the ancient darkspawn and effectively closing any rifts in Fereldan and Orlais. The need for The Inquisition is still great despite these accomplishments. People are barely rising from the ash and rubble, and seeking help from the only source they know. The Inquisitor is a beacon of hope for many, and Skyhold is a fortress that stands for peace and resolution. The masses flock to her gates in search of respite.
Vivienne has been named Divine. She is the first mage to hold the position and once appointed, the uproar is immediate. Three revolts follow in quick succession, and her response is immediate and vicious. Chaos reigned for months but eventually subsided. To the surprise of many, she reinstates the Circle of Magi and creates a Templar Order firmly leashed to her hand. Mages rise quickly in the new Circle, having more freedom and responsibility then ever before - even if all true power lies with her. Her reign is contentious and the Chantry could either accept her reign despite her detractors' chagrin or begin to fracture. The Circle of Magi has been reinstated. - Excerpt from The Dragon Age Wiki.
Unless otherwise stated, all characters and companions are considered to be alive and well with their own interests in mind.
Q : Why are the three main player characters (The Warden/Hawke/The Inquisitor) not available for tryouts? A : These three main characters were crucial to the development of our world state, and as such will not be played by anyone other than myself (Admin) and Mythal. That being said, they WILL be present when needed and not without their own plots and personal roleplays.
Q : Does that mean my canon character can't interact with their Warden/Hawke/Inquisitor? A : That is completely up to you! Both of us are completely willing to interact and roleplay any scenarios you bring to us. Granted these characters already know each other, so keep in mind that we'd actually love to have stable and friendly relationships with all canons, as much as possible. Meaning, we won't automatically assume that the Warden/Hawke/Inquisitor dislikes any canons. We are starting off with a clean slate leaning more towards Friendship rather than Rivalry. Don't be surprised if any of the three approach your character with lightheartedness or humor.
Q : What about my OC? Can they interact with The Warden/Hawke/The Inquisitor? A: Of Course! Again, any roleplaying you might want to do with any of the aforementioned characters is completely possible. We are completely approachable, as are our characters.
Q : Are there any specific things we CAN'T do with Canon characters? A : We don't limit you too much, but if you are planning on doing anything drastic, we would love to hear about it in advance! If you plan to pair them up or kill them off, please let us know! There isn't much we won't allow within reason, but think before you act. There is no retconning or rolling back the forum because of your decisions.
Q : What if I no longer want to roleplay my canon character? A : We'll be sad to see you give them up, but we'll take them and adopt them out again. Any relationships they've built are completely up to the new player to decide what to do with them. They can go from there as they see fit.
