There are four main races you may play as during your time here at Tame The Fade. Each race comes with their own advantages, disadvantages, and physical stats. While we are lenient with character creation, it is always good to read up on the basics of your chosen race so that you don't accidentally create a character that is out of the realm of canon possibility.

Humans are the most numerous, yet also the most contentious of all the races of Thedas. Only four times have they ever united beneath a single banner, the last being centuries ago. The monotheistic faith of the Chant of Light plays a major role in human society. The majority of humanity in Thedas descended from numerous human tribes. - Excerpt From The Dragon Age Wiki
Humans range widely in height, weight, and physical appearance. The only limits we are imposing thus far on this race include a 6 foot height cap.

Long ago, the elves were the dominant race on Thedas, and their advanced civilization was based on nature and magic. After the fall of their great city of Arlathan to the Tevinter Imperium and the subsequent generations of slavery, the elves lost most of their cultural heritage and identity. They attempted to rebuild their society in the Dales, but after four centuries they fell to the Chantry's Exalted Marches. Since then, their few numbers have been scattered all over Thedas in either forests as primitive nomads, the Dalish, or in cities as impoverished outcasts, with little hope of recovery for their culture or their race. - Excerpt From The Dragon Age Wiki
Elves have a slender build, with pointed ears and large eyes. They are often discriminated against for their outward appearance along with their inner city lifestyle of thievery and poverty. Elves that live in the city are segregated into Alienages and treated poorly by other races, primarily humans. Besides City Dwelling elves, there are also Dalish clans, which differ greatly and often times do not mingle with their brethren from the Alienages. The Dalish believe in recovering what they have lost over the centuries, from sacred tresures to forgotten knowledge. A Keeper in a Dalish clan is considered the leader in both the literal and spiritual sense. They are protectors and lore keepers for their clans. Though the Keeper is a mage, Templars tend to overlook such apostasy to maintain neutral human-elven relations. The Dalish know they are tolerated, and do not overstay their welcome in any human land. They move often, with Halla pulling their wagons and valuables.

The dwarves, or dwarva, as the dwarves refer to themselves,[1] are one of the major humanoid races of the Dragon Age setting. Strong, stocky, and shorter than any other humanoid race, the dwarves are skilled builders and boast a long tradition of courage and martial skill that has served them well in their millennia-long battle against the darkspawn. They are a race in decline, once developed a huge, great empire which spread across vast underground networks of twelve[2] great thaigs that spanned the breadth of Thedas. However their world was all but destroyed during the First Blight. - Excerpt From The Dragon Age Wiki
Dwarves descend from underground kingdoms, most of which have been lost to the ages and Darkspawn. They are a humanoid race that does not dream and therefore are not able to enter the Fade naturally. They are resistant to magic and can tolerant high levels of lyrium exposure. Dwarves than choose to live on the surface gradually lose their resistance, but there is still no record of exception to their inability to learn spellcasting.
Dwarven hierarchy consists of rigid and complex castes. The lowest rung are known as Casteless, who are outcasts in their own city. The casteless includes any dwarf born on the surface or exiled from their kingdom. In dwarven society, children inherit the cast of their same-sex parent; should a son be born, he would inherit his father's caste, or castelessness, should that be the case.
The only true religion embraced by Dwarven society is the stone itself. They believe the stone is alive and revere it, fear it, and cherish it. A second cultural belief is that dwarves who live a strong and noble life will strengthen the stone when they die. Dwarves worship their ancestors just as much as they worship the stone itself. Surface dwarves still preserve their beliefs in the Stone, while some do not follow or care for any religion. Only a small minority of them is part of the Chantry.
Dwarves are limited and should come nowhere near the same height as the other races. Dwarves CANNOT be mages.

The Qunari (literally, "People of the Qun") is the name most commonly known for the white-haired, metallic-skinned, gigantic race and their society that governs the island nations of Par Vollen and Seheron, and the settlements of Kont-Aar and Qundalon in northern Rivain and Anderfels respectively.[1] The Qunari homeland is located beyond the turbulent northern oceans of Thedas. However, contact has been intermittent at best and there is doubt as to whether a ship has made contact in many years. - Excerpt From The Dragon Age Wiki
Qunari are taller and considered to be more physically robust than humans. They have skin of varying metallic colors (such as gold, bronze, and silver), white hair, pointed ears, and vivid eyes with colors like violet, red, silver, or yellow. Most of them have horns, with the exception of those that are born with a rare genetic variation (hornless), or those that have forcefully had their horns removed (Saarebas). Those without horns are considered special and often hold prestigious positions within Qunari society. The horns themselves have no nerve endings, which means having them cut off causes no pain. Once the horns have been cut they do no regenerate or grow back.
Vitaar is the Qunari equivalent of tattoos, but only Qunari can withstand this warpaint. The substance used to make Vitaar is toxic to all other races. You may choose to wear Vitaar, but keep it's toxicity in mind around other characters.
The Qun is the philosophy, or religion, of the Qunari race. It gives every Qunari a definite place in society, which they must adhere to strictly. There is no concept of personal identity amongst this race, who they are is what their role is under The Qun. Even a Qunari's personal name is reminiscent of their job title. Qunari are more concerned with the pedigree of their people as opposed to their parentage. Children raised under The Qun are not raised by their parents at all, but by the Ben Hassrath (the Qunari equivalent of Priests). Any mages of the Qunari race are considered dangerous and often kept under a forced control. The Qunari claim that they do not dream as humans and elves do. This claim seems to be valid as they are rarely encountered in the Fade. For more information on the Qun and it's religious practice, you may visit the factions thread.
Qunari that were not born into the Qun are known as Vashoth, while those that chose to abandon the Qun are known as Tal-Vashoth. You may choose your origin as you see fit, but keep in mind that each choice has it's pros and cons.
Qunari SHOULD NOT be the same height as a human. Qunari can be ROGUES, WARRIORS, or MAGES.

Any offspring of two different races in the Dragon Age Universe have specific defined characteristics and appearances. Some offspring are even impossible, so keep these genetic laws in mind when creating your half-blooded character.
A Human/Elf Pairing will produce Elf-blooded children, also known pejoratively as "half-elves" and "half-blood". The elf-blooded appear physically human and are in fact considered purely human.
A human/Dwarf Pairing will produce Half-Dwarven children, who will be taller than their dwarven parent, but shorter than their human parent. Offspring from this union are extremely rare due to the low fertility rate of dwarves, especially outside of their own race.
An Elf/Dwarf Pairing will produce an extremely rare offspring that will be dwarven by all appearances.
A Qunari pairing with any other race will not produce offspring. It has not been canonically stated if Qunari and any other races are even genetically compatible. This is likely to change if new information is ever released.
Any halfblooded character, besides those with dwarven blood, can be ROGUES, WARRIORS, or MAGES. Half-Dwarves will NOT be allowed to be mages.
